DIY Fall Decor | Flower Pumpkin
DIY Fall Decor | Flower Pumpkin
You saw how I transformed the ugly foam Dollar Tree pumpkin into a gorgeous heirloom pumpkin but no, no! I wasn't done with just that. I had so many left over that I decided to make planters with some of them and they came out even better than I imagined. This blog post is full of photos and TWO designs so be sure to read all the way to the bottom of this post. Of course you know there's a video on that, too!! Go ahead and watch it below or keep on reading for the step-by-step tutorial.
Difficulty: Easy
Materials You'll Need for this Project:
Pumpkin you made from this tutorial
Spanish Moss
Flowers (your choice)
Foam Block
Hot Glue
Succulents (faux)
Lollipop Sticks
Branches (optional)
Tools Needed for this Project:
Hot Glue Gun
Utility Knife
INSTRUCTIONS:
I took the heirloom pumpkins I made previously and cut out an opening with a nice sharp blade.
I removed the top and glued a piece of dollar tree foam to the bottom of the pumpkin. I also glued some Spanish moss around the white parts you see here as well as the foam. When I was done I had something that looked like this.
I grabbed some succulents I had from a previous DIY and glued on some lollipop sticks I had to the bottom so it acts as a stem. When the glue was completely dry, I cut the tip on a 45 degree angle so it can pierce through the foam easily.
I went ahead and grabbed some flowers, the succulents, and some extra foliage and started to glue them onto the planter. I started with these green vines, then I chose to add the largest succulent and worked my way around from there adding flowers, smaller succulents, small branches, and more accent pieces until I was happy with the way it looked.

For the second pumpkin I made the hole and added the moss but kept the cutout with the stem. I glued it on the side like this and added some moss to cover the white areas.
I added succulents directly into the pumpkin this time so it’s nestled inside. I added some eucalyptus and flowers until I was happy with the way it looked and that’s it!
I love that these pumpkins are so diverse and you can do so much with them for the fall season. Please let me know how you like these upcycled pumpkins in the comments below.
