How to Throw a Mask-querade Party at Home
DIY Planters | Plaster of Paris Succulent Planters
The warm weather says Spring is here and with Spring I love making brightly colored DIYs! In this post, I'm going to show you how to make these adorable DIY Planters you can give away as a gift or use as a party party favor.. I mean, who doesn't love Succulent Planters? Okay, I know they're cacti but same difference, right?
Materials:
Plaster of Paris
Water
Bowl for Mixing Plaster
Shot Glass Molds
Liquitex
Paint
Plants like mini succulents or cacti
Potting Soil
220 Grit Sandpaper
Paint Brush
Sponge
Gilding Paint
Instructions:
For these planters I actually took some Plaster of Paris and mixed in some water until I had a nice peanut butter/slightly melted ice cream consistency.
Grab your shot glass mold and pour the mixture inside. You’ll want to work quickly because plaster hardens fast. Similar to cement you’ll want to tap out the air bubbles.

Let it sit for about an hour or so and when you feel that the plaster has hardened, pop it out of the mold. It should come out very easy.
If the bottom of your planter is rough, sand it down a little with fine grit sandpaper (220 grit should be fine).

To make sure this DIY planter is water resistant, take some Liquitex and paint it on the outside of the planter.
I wanted an ombre look so I took some paint and added some white to it. I made 3 shades of the same color.
I took the lightest shade and added it to the top, i then took the medium shade and added it to the rest of the planter. Once the paint was fairly dry, i took the darkest color and added it to the bottom. I blended all the colors until I was happy with the gradient.

Once the paint has dried, I poured gold gilding paint into a container and dabbed a pattern onto the planter with a sponge. I worked very fast with this since the gilding paint dries quickly.
Once the paint had time to dry, I added another coat of liquitex and set it aside overnight.
the next day I took my plant and added it into the container. these planters are very tiny so you’ll need to make sure the plant will fit inside before purchasing.

Once the cactus was inside I had something that looked like this. Obviously you might need to transfer this to a bigger pot eventually but I think these are so adorable and will make perfect gifts or party favors.
