DIY Clay Trinket Dish (Anthropologie Inspired)

DIY Clay Trinket Dish (Anthropologie Inspired)

I made this trinket dish inspired by Anthropologie's (way too expensive) dish. I just needed something to hold my rings while I washed dishes or a little trinket dish to hold my jewelry I was wearing the next day to match my outfit. Nothing fancy and nothing that cost Anthropologie money so I decided to make my own DIY Clay Trinket Dish! Want to make your own? Let's get started!!

Materials:

Polymer Clay (I guess you can use air dry clay but I'm impatient)

Rolling Pin

Cup (or anything you can shape your dish on)

Xacto Knife

Sandpaper

The following are optional:

Copper Leafing Pen

Paint (black, white, gray)

Small Skinny Paint Brush

Instructions:

To begin, take a lump of clay and start working it with your hands. The aim of the game is to warm this bad boy up so it's easily pliable.

After your clay is nice and soft, roll it out with a rolling pin. I'd say to roll it out to the recommended thickness on the clay package. I believe mine was a bout 1/4 inch but don't quote me on that.

Make sure you smooth out any imperfections after you're done rolling (sometimes bubbles form and that's totally fine just smooth it out)

Next up, take a glass or another oven safe container to mold your clay on. Fold it over and smooth out any air bubbles. You may want to lift the clay from the sides and smooth down to release any bubbles that may be trapped inside.

After the clay is buttery smooth, take a sharp xacto knife to cut the clay to your desired depth.

Pop it off and bake the clay according to the package instructions.

With a fine grit sandpaper, sand down the imperfections. This may take a bit to be sure to watch your favorite tv show!

This was a complete rookie mistake on my end but I started painting the copper initials first. Ideally I would have started painting then wrote in the initials.

When I was done painting, I took the copper leafing pen and traced the top of the dish. You can leave the dish matte like I did or you can spray a clear acrylic finish to make it nice and glossy. It's totally up to you!

I hope this inspires you to make your own clay creations!
